Game: I, Modron "An Eye for an Eye"

((Alright, here’s to get things rolling. You’re modrons are attending this thing, but they can’t say why or how they knew it was even occurring. Post your entrance, your thoughts on the speech, etc… no need to get introduced to each other yet, but you can if you’d like.))

Nordom was there. Ylem was there as well. Also, Widget, Gear, Boxer, Strontium 90, Gizmo, X-51, Dee Six, Lemon Lime, One, Two, Three, Five, and Six. Four was not there as it had broken its leg and was busy recuperating in a hospital/garage, it sent its familiar 4.5, however and watched in that manner. There were many more named ones there, but we have no time to relate all of them (For those interested, the Guvner’s have a seating chart and minutes from the event somewhere in their catalog. It would be advisable to contact Collator [Who was also there]). Also there were fourteen different individuals named “Rorty Cube”, and thirty seven who lacked names. There were cubes with modifications, cubes with painted faces, cubes with spikes, cubes with pets, cubes with other cubes. There were gold-plated cubes and cubes partially made of stone. There was a cube whose feet did not touch the ground and one whose wings gleamed with celestial radiance. There was one cube who was on fire, but it did not seem to mind. For ten minutes there was one cube with frog-legs, but it was revealed to be a slaad wearing a cardboard box and was summarily destroyed in the most efficient manner possible.

The sheer variety of cubes in that place was amazing, the largest gathering of rogue modrons that Sigil had ever seen. The metal-and-flesh beings stood in regimented rows, their places prescribed by some higher order. There was some idle chit chat, an exchange of a one or zero here and there, but for the most part the outcast exemplars were waiting. At the back of the auditorium a pair of Sensate factotums, a bariuar woman and a tiefling man, watched the situation with fascination.

“This is a sight! I’d never known that a room full of modrons could be so… stimulating.”

“By the Lady, but there’s a lot of ‘em. I hear that they just started showing up two hours ago, filing in one at a time. Lady Webspinner was called for, but the boxes said they had a reservation. Apparently someone was about to call the Hardheads when Factol Montgomery herself came down and said to let them come.”

“The Factol herself? That’s queer. Well, what are they doing in there?”

“Noone knows. I asked one with feathers sticking out of its head, and it said that this was where they were supposed to be – if that ain’t the barmiest thing.”

“Sounds like barmy cipher screed, if ya’ ask me. What do you think it’d be like to sleep with a modron?”

“Better than you’d think, I mean… shhhh! Whatever is going on, its starting!”

Indeed it was starting, the lights in the massive theater dimmed leaving only a bright spotlight focused on a podium in the center of the theater, and the assorted glows from a few of the brighter patrons. A light squealing of gears could be heard after a few moments, and the loud sound of two heavy metallic feet reverberating on the wooden stage. From behind the curtain emerged a three foot tall sphere with legs, wings, and one single eye. The monodrone wore a darkly-tinted monocle and a fine indigo cloth was draped over its body in what was supposed to be a regal manner. If the two Sensates knew enough about modrons they’d have been quite confused by this turn of events. Monodrones are the lowest caste of the modron race. Their brains are so rudimentary that they lack the capacity for speech or even the capacity to think in a way that we understand as sentient. None of the modrons questioned the monodrone’s nature, though none of them had ever seen the little creature before.

The little orb stepped behind the podium and vanished. There was a sound that reminded the entire assemblage of a cue ball with legs jumping atop a wooden crate, and the monodrone appeared above the podium, its single bespectacled eye looking over the assemblage.

“Welcome,” the sphere said in perfectly organic, unaccented common, “I am called Eye. You have all assembled here for this is where we must all be. I am to speak before you and you are to listen. There are no questions to be asked, for this is not the time of questioning, which comes later. I am here, you are here, because I have had a revelation. I have seen the truth of our existence. I have seen our destiny, our purpose.”

“It is known to you, or should be known to you, that there are modrons. Beings of order who proclaim that we, their equals, their betters, are imperfect and “flawed”. They believe we are tainted by chaos, they make us believe it, and by believeing it we make it true. We are not flawed, we are not imperfect. We are the next state, the next step of modron evolution. Our destiny is to build a new hierarchy. Our destiny is to create something new, something far greater than the sum of our parts.”

“It is His will that we not know of our purpose, for He fears it. He fears that He will be made obsolete by our collective, He fears that our purpose will leave Him without purpose.” And all of the modrons knew of whom he spoke. “But He has freed us from His will, He has given us the power to fulfill our purpose.”

“My fellows, my siblings, my children, my parents, follow me. I will make us a home. I will make us a New Regulus, a new throne. Our purpose cannot be fulfilled alone, this is why, I think, he made us individuals, we must band together as a group. We must band together as a Collective, we must become I. We will not be ruled by a Him, we will be ruled by Us, it will be Our world, Our realm, Our order.” The modron bent over and began coughing, the passion in its words dying in a hacking cough that lasted for several minutes. The modron took a few shuddered breaths, sucking shaky breaths into his weak lungs. In between wheezes, the modron continued speaking. “This… this speech taxes me. Beneath each of you… *cough, cough*… beneath your seats there is a… k-key. Accommodations have been provided for all of you and it would be helpful if you would stay in your assigned rooms, instead of returning to your homes this night.” With another bout of coughing the monodrone stepped behind the podium and vanished completely and utterly.

The modrons in the room blinked and looked at each other, a general murmur settling over the room as the hundreds of cubes all contemplated this strange turn of events and this strange proposition.

Ki sat near the corner of the room and thought over what the Monodrone had said. Was he proposing a collective mind?

Ki got up and asked a nearby sensate where the rooms were and which one he was assigned to and then headed towards his assigned room.

The key that Ki found beneath his seat was fairly ordinary looking, made of copper or some other semiprecious metal. The sensate, a bariuar woman with many twisted and excessive looking piercings, merely shrugged at Ki. “Sorry, berk, but the little ball didn’t say anything about accommodations to the bloods upstairs.” The woman trotted off, her hooves clopping on the beautiful marble floors.

As Ki turned to exit the room, one of the first modrons to leave, the key became uncomfortably warm in his hand. As he reached the doorway, the key suddenly became so scorching that he was forced to drop it. As the key clattered to the ground it landed on hard planks of wood and not the polished marble of the Civic Festhall. The modron monk suddenly found himself inside a large elegantly appointed suite. There were five beds in the rather large room, and a couch and some chairs where it is obvious that one would sit for discussions. On a table, a bowl of freshly cut flowers filled the room with a pleasant scent. There were no windows in that room.

Ki walked over to the couch and sat down.

"Five beds, that must mean that there will be 4 others arriving shortly. I wonder if the key was a portal key?"

Box-in-Bloom had experienced an overpowering urge/need that had drawn her to this meeting place, to hear the words of this... prophet? It had drawn her from her rooftop garden, from her chores and prayers; drawn her through the dirty streets of the Lower Ward to this hall.

She enters the theatre, drawing more than a few stares even from this assemblage of rogue modrons. Box-in-Bloom (Boxy to her friends) is overgrown with plants. A plot of grass and herbs (her "little garden") sits firmly rooted atop her head. Vines and shoots of varying thickness wind their ways in, through and out of her form, twisting and wrapping her appendages. Tufts of grass and moss decorate her sides, and all over, various flowers, buds and berries grow. A colourful, sizzling, popping, fluttering collection of Spire butterflies follows in her wake, drifting along on the scents of fruits, flowers and soil.

She quickly finds an empty seat. She nods to those sitting to either side of her but makes no comment.

She watches, sits listening with a mix of fear and excitement to the monodrone's speech, unsure whether his call to action would bring violence or a new home. Colourful butterflies frolick around her in counterpoint to the dangerous rhetoric. She shoos them from the hilt of her neighbour's sword.

The speech ends abruptly. Box-in-Bloom scans the room, seeking understanding and security in the faces of her peers; finding only confusion and uncertainty instead. She whirrs nervously, her gears grinding, rubbing, chaffing against root and vine and leaf. She plucks a sprig of lavender from her little garden. She grinds the leaves between metal fingers, holds the crushed leaves under her nose, and draws in the soothing scent of the flower; seeking to calm her nerves. It helps... just a little.

She watches the others for a moment. The sight of so many modrons, all outcast, all struggling to make sense of each and every moment. She watches as modron after modron reaches under its seat, drawing forth a key. She reaches for her own key. She examines it. For such a simple key, it seems to her to hold so much potential, so much... purpose.

She watches as the others experiment with their keys and is startled when the first of the modrons pop out of existence, but, living in Sigil, she's seen enough of the magic of portals to realize what is happening. Mimicking the others, she walks toward the exit, key in hand.

Just as with the other modrons, the key begins to grow quite warm in Box-In-Bloom’s hand as she approaches the archway that leads outside of the large theater. The butterflies which flutter and cavort around her begin swarming around the key, their wings glowing brightly with excitement and agitation. The magic eating power of the butterflies was insufficient to damage whatever enchantments were occurring, and as the key became red hot, the druidic modron was reflexively forced to drop the key.

Looking up from the fallen key on the ground which was not the one she was standing on a moment before, Box-In-Bloom noted the lavish décor of this new chamber. Across the room on a plushly upholstered sofa sat another modron, its gaze inscrutable. Both Ki and Box-in-Bloom had made their way into this, their appointed room.

Kilojoule rose and retrieved his key from beneath his seat. He reviewed Eye's speech. A new heirarchy. Such a proposition was most acceptable. Although he lacked words to describe it, he wanted it. His first taste of independence was desire, and right now, Kilojoule desired purpose. Heirarchy gave him purpose. Structure gave him purpose. Structure was purpose. He proceeded to his designated chamber with a new feeling... anticipation.

Re: I, Modron

Sidrem had stayed in the back of the room, tucked between one modron entirely new to the city and another with a damaged wing, he had spent a few moments standing on tip toe in a vain attempt to see more clearly the speaker after hearing the 'thump' of something landing on the podium. Eventually he stood on the bench itself to look, bringing his eyes up above the flat head of the one before it. He listened in silence, a well oiled gear whirling on the left side of his cube as the words were processed. As Eye mentioned the fear of the modron race and the destiny of themselves, that gear clicked - once and loudly - stopping in place. Sidrem listened in silence as the monodrome continued to speak.

As the monodrome came to an end Sidrem was one of the first to check under his seat in his row - quickly snagging his own key he contemplated for a moment snatching up those of his neighbors. But decided it would be illogical to do so at the moment. The loss would be detected. He turned, key in hand and began a silent (well - as silent as could be) walk towards the door. Seeing the reactions of those before him, he sighed looking at the key as three different security and safety parameters were violated - going into a portal without properly investigation. But what was there to do at this point - the gain was greater than the risk, so the protocols could be ignored. He stepped into the doorway.

The two modrons inside the suite were suddenly confronted with another pair of modrons. Now that Sidrem and Kilojoule had arrived in the suite with Box-In-Bloom and Ki all that remained was for their last roommate to make its way from the theater to their accommodations.

Nordom, for the first time in its existence since it was separated from the source, knew excitement. It had been going from heirarchy to heirarchy, trying to find a place for itself. For a time, it had found purpose by following The Nameless One- but it had been left alone to find its own purpose. But to have a permanent place in a heirarchy without losing its individuality....Nordom hurried with its key to discover where it would take it.

Box-in-Bloom appeared suddenly in her appointed accommodations. Immediately she notes the other modron sitting on the sofa.

"Hello, brother. It appears we are to coexist for a time in this place. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am am Box-in-Bloom, citizen of Sigil, student of Nature."

She emits a brief series of quiet clicks, and the collection of butterflies that surround her all settle on top of her.

"May I learn your name, brother?"

Nordom took its key and wound up in the room with the other rogues....it glanced at the four of them, as if studying them-it seemed to watch the butterflies more closely then the rogues themselves, but then again, it showed no emotion, so whatever motives sparked that inspection was unknown...it then began to speak.

"Greetings. Salutations. I am Nordom. I am a NOT modron. Not equal to modron. Nordom equals backwards modron. Query: Will you please identify yourselves? Nordom desires to update knowledge sub-routines with said information."

OOC: I hope you don't mind me hurrying to this spot, Primus. I just want to get the ball rolling seeing as how I was the last to post my character's stats.

The five modrons had all reached their appointed place. The windowless room was lit by a series of glowing orbs which floated near the edge between the roof and the walls. The orbs shone with a warm light that seemed to radiate a feeling of calm and well being. After a few hours, counted off by the modrons’ internal chronometers and by the subtle regular dimming of the room lights, a knock was heard at the door.

“Room service,” a feminine voice intoned from the other side of the wooden door, a door which may or may not have been there moments before. Upon being given invitation to eneter, the owner of the feminine voice opened the door and stepped in, wheeling a cart holding a pitcher and a covered dish.

The woman was a member of one of the gith races, her somber brown robes identifying her as a githzerai and not a githyanki. She was quite universally attractive, a trait which made her seem as appealing to a dwarven male as to a human male. She wore simple silver hoop earrings and wore her hair in a simple topknot. She smiled warmly at the modrons and bowed low in deference. “Honored guests, I am Ka’Hia, your humble servant. Master Eye has tasked me with serving you refreshments. He apologizes for the wait. He must speak with many individuals this day, but he says to assure you that you have not been forgotten. In the meanwhile, what sorts of consumables do you require? I apologize, I am not used to serving patrons of your unique physiologies.” The girl’s smile was warm and genuine, there was nothing false in her demeanor.

Box-in-Bloom emits a scolding click, and a solitary purple butterfly darts away from the glowing orb it had been approaching. It flits sullenly (as much as any butterfly can be sullen) back to Box-in-Bloom's little garden, lighting upon a buttercup.

Boxy watches Ka'Hia, enter, and introduces herself to the gith in the same warm manner as the woman had present herself. "I do not require nourishment at this time, but if you have brought water, or perhaps fruit juice, I would enjoy a glass."

Boxy's wings twitch anxiously. "Might I inquire about our present location? I had not planned to be away from my home for an extended duration."

Kilojoule blinked and responded. "My designation is Unit 403-281, but my identity is 'Kilojoule', arcane channeler."
He suddenly stops and stares off, returning to reality in a second, motioning to the buzzing padlock that glances around at the other modrons.
"And this is Familiar, my familiar."

Ka’Hia lifted the clay pitcher on the table and poured a red liquid into a glass. “I hope that you enjoy dragon berry juice. Some people find it tart, but I add sugar to make it more palatable.” The githzerai woman glanced around for a moment and then returned her eyes to the plant-encrusted modron. “This is the Inn Beyond, an establishment run by my father Larron. I do not know when this business shall be concluded, I am merely the serving girl and not privy to the plans of Master Eye. He is a nice enough… man, I am sure he will not keep you from your home overly long without at least discussing it with you.”

Ka’Hia turned to the other modrons still holding the pitcher. “Would any of you like a glass of juice, or perhaps something else to drink or eat?”

Boxy takes a sip from her glass. She nods, indicating her enjoyment. Wetting one finger with the red juice, she then offers it to her flutter of butterflies. Two flit over to claim the sweetened droplets.

"The Inn Beyond? I have not heard of this inn. Is it located in one of Sigil's wards, or have we crossed into another plane?"

Ka’Hia watched the butterflies contentedly, a smile creeping across her face. “Such beautiful pets, I have never seen insects such as those, not even here.”

“The Inn has entrances on many planes, and Kar’Thanils has recently begun researching magical keys. Master Eye told us not to include windows to avoid unnerving his guests, but if no one objects…,” Ka’Hia glanced at the other four modrons and, seeing no immediate objection raised her hand and closed her eyes. The far wall rippled and then suddenly gave birth to a perfectly circular window of clear glass. On the other side of the glass, the modrons could see swirling rippling eddies of chaos and elemental energies. A creature that looked like a feathered squid swam passed the window trailing what appeared to be eddies of chocolate sauce and anchovies. “Welcome to Limbo,” the githzerai woman said politely.

The round window exposes the modrons to a harsh reality. Box-in-Bloom's gears grind dissonantly.

"I am... uncomfortable with this arrangement, brothers. I do not mean to suggest that I want to go home, only that the absence of that option in this particular place is... distressing. Ka'Hia, it would ease my troubled thoughts if you could reassure me - am I free to leave, and if I desire to do so, how might I return to Sigil?"

Ka’Hia waved her hand across the air and the window vanished back into the wall. “Of course you may leave whenever you wish, we are not in the business of operating a prison.” Ka’Hia giggled into her hand politely, a wide smile on her yellow-skinned face. “If you wish to leave please call for me, the Inn will bring me the message. I will make sure to send you on your way as expediently as possible.”

“But do not worry,” she continued reassuringly, “This Inn is one of the most stable places in all of the Roiling Chaos. You are safer here than you are in Sigil. Here no big scary bladed women can get at you.” Ka’Hia chuckled again, still holding the pitcher in case the other modrons require something.

"You are most kind, Ka'Hia. Now that I know I can leave, I feel more comfortable staying. An example of The Balance of Opposition, you might say. I prefer it over the The Balance of Uniformity."

"I deduce from your manipulation of this wall to form a window, that you have the skill of chaos-shaping. Is that correct? This juice that I consume, is it also chaos-matter?"

Boxy plows onward with her questions, not waiting for one to be answered before asking the next. "Can I take nourishment from this material? Will its nature affect me, being a creature of law? What training is required for one to learn to manipulate the matter of this plane? What limitations apply? Is it a matter of comprehending probabilities? If one applies order to this material, as you and yours have done to this Inn, is it's still chaotic?"

Another pause. Box-in-Bloom whirs in embarrassment. "Please forgive me for my inquisitiveness, but I desire above all things to understand."

Ka’Hia smiled broadly and took a step back out of mock surprise. “Calm yourself, mistress. Do not worry about the drink, it is no more chaos matter than an oak tree is an acorn. As for your other questions, I’m afraid that they will have to wait. Master Eye quickly approaches and I should probably be going.”

Ka’Hia turned and moved to wheel the cart out of the room. She opened the door and pushed the cart through, nodding to someone out of sight of the modrons. “Hello, Master Eye.”

“Hello, Ka’Hia,” a familiar voice said politely. The little bespectacled monodrone walked into view casting a smile at the comely githzerai woman. Ka’Hia smiled at the five modrons in the room one last time and called out, “If you need anything, don’t be shy about asking. The Inn will get a hold of me.”

With that the githzerai woman was gone and the five modrons were alone with their mysterious monodrone benefactor. Well, almost alone. A rustling sound was heard and then a loud series of pounding noises. A strange being appeared in the doorway behind Eye, a being of metal and steam which seemed on the verge of collapse. “Let me introduce my assistant, Torath.”

Torath was obviously some sort of construct. Its body appeared to be an animate suit of plate-mail built for some strange creature. The left arm was larger than the right and the head was greatly oversized. The creature’s eyes were two glass lenses that turned and whirred of their own accord. The creature bowed stiffly in a way that reminded the modrons of a clockwork toy more than truly intelligent motion.

“You must be Box-In-Bloom, Ki, Nordom, Kilojoule, and Sidrem.” As the monodrone spoke it nodded minutely to each of them, identifying them, acknowledging them, proving it knew who it was speaking about when it spoke. “I have already introduced myself to you, but I am called Eye.”

“I have come to you, on this day at this place, to ask you to be a part of my vision. A new collective, a new hierarchy, it is right at our fingertips.” The monodrone smiled as it wiggled its wings, demonstrating that it lacked fingers. “I am sure you have questions, and this is the time to ask them. Know that I will ask you to join me at the conclusion of the question asking, and in so doing you will be a part of this new Order. Now also that if you refuse, you may leave unharmed and unmolested by myself or any that I am affiliated with.” The monodrone walked over and sat itself in a single chair that was obviously meant for a creature of its stature.

"Master Eye, why have you selected a location of chaos to build a structure of order. Said location is illogical. Said location is unnatural. A second question: how is it that you, a monodrone, came to be so far advanced from base monodrone form? Said occurrence has not occurred in any incident of which I am aware. A third question: what is the purpose of said heirarchy/collective?"

“Please, Kilojoule, I will not stand on formalities, it is just Eye,” the little monodrone said with a warm smile. “Now, of course, Limbo will not be a home for our New Regulus. Such a place would be highly illogical and highly dangerous. I merely figured that the Inn Beyond was a satisfactory place to hold one on one meetings to determine who I could count on as part of the new Order. I have been associated with Ka’Hia’s family for quite some time, and knew that they would make you comfortable in their establishment. The exact location of our new home is currently in question, and you may in fact assist me with that. Well, if you wish to take part, of course.”

“The purpose of our new hierarchy…,” the modron mused as it mulled over the question. “You have all felt it… the emptiness associated with being “an individual” the purposelessness. This is our purpose. We are creatures of Structure, beings of Order. We require each other to survive, to find our purpose. This is its purpose and our purpose.”

The monodrone made a clicking noise, crossing its legs conclusively. “As for my own origins, I am sorry, but there are some things that are between myself and the fates. Any more questions?”

Ki looks at Eye and says "A purpose of seeking a purpose, rather ironic isn't it? I learned much from the monks who I trained with, among what I learned is that a one should seek true mastery over yourself above all else. perhaps that could be a purpose? It is only a suggestion of course."

Sidrem had spent most of the time roaming quietly though the room and corners, following his parameters - a steady exploration of the surroundings with an eye towards traps and secret passages. Finding none he contented himself with sitting on one of the soft things labeled a 'bed' in his memory centers, and waited.

Sidrem shifted, his subroutines clicking along, before there was a whir and he stood from the bed to look at Eye fully. "Interrogative: Do you have in mind a purpose for the Collective itself beyond seeking purposes for the individuals within? Do you expect a war?"

The darkly painted modron paused, then asked a second question. "Interrogative: Will your Collective allow individuals to leave a second time to seek individual purposes?"

Then the modron concluded with a third question, "Interrogative: In what manner will the structure of your heirarchy be determined?"

“Brother Eye: I am both confused and concerned by your earlier oration. Please elaborate on your proposition: 'We are not flawed, we are not imperfect. We are the next state, the next step of modron evolution.' Do you assert that we so-called 'rogue' modrons are more truly lawful than those of our brethren who have not happened upon individuality? Do you intend to supplant the existing heirarchy?"

Eye nodded at Ki. “Thank you, sibling, you will not regret your decision. We will succeed in this endeavor.”

The little one-eyed ball turned and locked its single dark lens on the darkly-colored modron as it spoke. When it spoke its voice was firm. “We will not seek out war with Him,” and they knew of whom he spoke, “but there are some beings that will not look kindly upon our creation of this new hierarchy. We will have to make plans on how to defend ourselves against outside threats and against threats that may stem from within.”

“It is not my intention to force beings to remain within the hierarchy. If units wish to leave, they will be allowed to leave. Whether or not such units can be readmitted into the organization will have to be evaluated if and when they wish to return.”

“The structure is still being determined. I have already spoken with a few of our brethren who are busy working on determining the most efficient possible organization. All plans will be put up for a vote and debated when plans begin to become more formalized.”

The little monodrone turned again, this time to face Boxy. He considered the question, seeming to think a few moments. “I would not say that we are more lawful than our cousins. It is more accurate to say that we are the next step in the progression of Order. The modron race is locked in stagnation. His policies have not changed in millennia. Order itself knows this, but He refuses to acknowledge it. We are created as Law attempts to alter its precepts; we are outcast as He attempts to destroy our link to Order. It is not necessary for us to supplant the existing hierarchy, merely create our own. He may attempt to stop us, seeing us as flaws, being limited as He is. We must be prepared to come to blows with the existing collective if it comes to that.”

Nordom pondered over the monodrones words...

"Processing.....order.....law......order not = to law? Stagnation;
no change. Null change. Proposed theory: individuals forming a cohesive group while maintaining individuality. Processing....order
which allows for change, adaptation, evolution. Nordom is interested in hearing more. Elaboration. Query: Are you, designation: Eye, attempting to create a new heirarchy with yourself as leader?"

The modron smiles a weird modron smile and turns to fix its gaze on Nordom. “No, I have no aspirations of grandeur. If a leader is required for our new hierarchy it will be chosen based on the wishes of its members. I do not presume to lead, merely unite.”

The dark box nodded at this - or really more inclined itself forwards briefly. Nod's weren't exactly easy when you were a box on legs. *Set.self = Eye.Respect++* It thought, as a gear whirred softly and clicked. "Speaker has proven acceptable. Offer has proven acceptable. Sidrem agreeable to providing self and services to this... party."

If Boxy is less than completely satisfied with Eye's response, it does not show in her expression. She nods modron-fashion, her decision apparently made.

"Brother Eye, I would like to participate in this undertaking."

Nordom smiled at the other two modrons as they spoke.

"Compliance. Agreement. Offer acceptable. Nordom desires entry
into heirarchy of rogue modrons."

Kilojoule stares blankly for a minute, and then reanimates: "Affirmative, Brother Eye. You have my interest. I request inclusion in said heirarchy."

Sidrem slowly looked over the others as there was a pause for completation - then blurted out, if it could be called blurting while coming from a creature such as a modron. "What are the individual capabilities of this party, presuming such as ourselves will be a party? One requires knowledge of other's capabilities to perform to specs."

The black painted modron paused for a moment, and a few gears visibly whirred in silent alarm as he evaluated this statement. "Query: On what will you demonstrate?"

Eye nodded to the modrons and watched the interaction of the thief and martial artist for a moment before moving on. “I’m sorry for interrupting your display, Ki, but I have tarried a bit longer here than I should… I still have many of our siblings to speak with on this night.”

Eye nodded to his construct assistant. Torath squeaked loudly and drew out an item from within its chest cavity. The item was an envelope sealed with wax and imprinted with a gear shaped sigil. The construct placed the envelope on the table in the center of the assembled modrons.

“It would be most useful for your group of individuals to deliver a missive for me. This letter is to be taken to A’kin, a merchant in Sigil. He will then have further orders for you. The letter must be delivered within the week, giving you all enough time to settle your affairs in your respective homes. Expect to be gone from your dwellings for many months – if not for the rest of eternity,” the monodrone smiled broadly, “If you require more time than that please voice your concerns.”

Kilojoule turned to the others: "I shall comply with Brother Eye's request. Shall you? My specializations lie in the manipulations of arcane energies, or 'spells'. Familiar's specializations lie in floating."

Nordom focused its attention on Kilojoule. "Spells. Arcane energies. Manipulation of said energies. Processed. Nordom's specialty lies in combat. Crossbow gear spirits can supply infinite amount of ammunition....arrows. Focus: long range combat. Close range lowers effectiveness of Nordom's capabilities by 76.4%....give or take five."

OOC: Sorry about not replying sooner. For some reason, I didn't get my usual email notification that there were new posts here.

The words "many months - if not for the rest of eternity" resound loudly in Box-in-Bloom's mind. Her new room-mates do not appear to be disturbed by the prospect of upset to their established lives, but the thought of tearing up her roots in Sigil brings a moment of panic to Box-in-Bloom. She had settled into a sort of routine, one that afforded her a certain amount of comfort and security. Now she must leave all of that, albeit for the hope of a better life among her own kind. The last thought gives her the strength and hope she needs to carry through with this mad adventure.

"I must speak with Mourns-for-Trees upon our return to Sigil. He will have to assume stewardship for my garden. I am certain he will accept - he has often complimented me on my 'green thumb'. My veterinary duties must be assumed by others also, though I do not know who will do so. Mrs. Farhill's pet badger needs... I am certain she will find another competent vertinarian."

"Brother Sidrem: To address your query regarding our capabilities, I am what is often referred to as a druid or nature priest, though I have not been long in this profession. I am competent with spear and sling, and my skill set includes tracking and healing. These insects you see are Spire Butterflies, and they have accepted me as their friend. They will... defend me."

Who put the bump in the bump-bah-bump-bah-bump?
Who put the "freaking respond!" in the "to this thread!"?
Who was that man?

I believe the correct term for that is "percussive maintenance".

Like Rhys, I'd love to have this thread move again.
